During the earliest days of the United States, the situation regarding Flags was much different than it is today;
there was no one single design, nor was there much conformity in flags even within a single design
specification. Striped flags became popular even before the Revolutionary War broke out. The first U.S. flags
retained the symbols of the mother country, in the hope of reconcilation. After 1777 and the adoption by
Congress of the Stars and Stripes, three basic "sub-designs" used for different purposes evolved; the thirteen
stripes used quite unofficially as a "Merchant Flag," the design authorized by Congress on June 14th, 1777 and
often refered to as the "Marine Flag," used by our Navy; and the "Standard of the United States," utilized
primarily at the begining by the army.

FLAG FABRICS
Valley Forge carefully controls the quality of the fabrics used
in the production of their flags. From fiber selection to weaving
to final finishing. Each step is carefully executed with the end
use of paramount concern. Because flag fabrics are subject to a unique
set of demands, fabrics intended for other uses will not suffice.
Flags must combine many opposing properties, i.e., they must be
colorfast to both sun and rain, light-weight construction and have
high tensile strength. To achieve these results one must design
and construct the fabric to exacting specifications. Because Valley
Forge Flags do all of this, we offer the finest selection of flag
fabrics in the world. SolarMax only by DuPont is featured on all
of the fabrics.
100% made in the USA.
FLAG CONSTRUCTION FEATURES
ALL flags are crafted from special fabrics which are woven and dyed
for flag use and exceed U.S. Government Specifications.
ALL flags 2x3' through 12x16' are supplied with the largest full
filled embroidered stars for exceptional beauty. Flags 15x25' and
larger offer full size sewn stars and exceeding pertinent U.S.
In sizes 3x5' through 6x10' heavy white polyester canvas headings and
solid brass #2 grommets ensure durability. Sizes 8x12' and larger feature
extra heavy, white polyester canvas headings and nylon ropes and
galvanized metal thimbles for the added strength needed for the
larger flags. Brass grommets are used in addition to rope on headings
of the 10x15' and larger flags.
Valley Forge Flags exceed U.S. government specifications for material
and workmanship. Unlike others we use superior, bonded nylon thread
for extra strength.
DETERMINING PROPER FLAG SIZE
The length of the flag should be at least 25% of the height of the
flagpole. Example, a 40 foot pole requires a 6x10' flag or larger.
This guideline applies to poles 20' and larger. Most residential flags
are 3x5' or 4x6'. Most small industrial and commercial buildings are
either 5x8' or a 6x10' flag. Major Industrial, Municipal and Government
buildings require 8x12' and larger. However the size of the pole is
the determining factor.
Valley Forge Flags exceed U.S. government specifications for material
and workmanship. Unlike others we use superior, bonded nylon thread
for extra strength.
What is the difference between a BANNER and a FLAG?
A flag has metal grommet rings on the fly end (the side that goes
against the flagpole). It flys horizontally off a vertical flagpole. A
Banner has a sleeve on the top of the vertical end. It hangs vertically
off a small pole, usually a wooded 5'-6' pole attached to a house via
a bracket.
100% Made in the USA.
Some of the U.S. Stick flags are imported.
